Iranian steel structures can compete in foreign markets

The chairman of the Iranian Steel Structure Producers and Exporters Association said that Iranian steel structures can compete in foreign markets.

Seyyed Hamed Ziaei, on the sidelines of his visit to the ISTACO Building Development & Steel Structures Engineering stand at the 23rd international building industry exhibition, said that the Iranian steel structure industry has a good export opportunity thanks to competitive prices and low labour costs compared with other countries, and that if sanctions and banking problems are solved, annual exports of two billion dollars will be possible.

He added that in the Middle East and West Asia we have no serious competitor other than China; and even then, if our export routes are really open, there are no sanctions, we can open letters of credit, sign contracts and receive advance payments, China cannot compete with us either.

Ziaei stated that even in the United States, a hub of steel structures, if there were no sanctions we could export Iran's steel structure industry and be actively present there. The chairman of Barbod Fanavar Civil Industries Engineering Company added that because our factories have highly specialized staff, very advanced machinery and good domestic steel, we have a better chance to compete.

He said: we are the world's tenth-largest steelmaker, and our steel is exported to Europe in terms of quality, but we should not export raw material; we should develop this industry. About the association, Ziaei said it was founded to organize the steel structure industry in the country and aims to create effective links with and guide about 500 steel structure factories nationwide.
